Teacher's Notes: Felix the Mouse

This story starts with a mouse to introduce some of the most basic, common vocab words. The repetitive sentences help ensure comprehension (and confidence!) and add more to the story little by little. For best results, go over the vocabulary in the story before reading it. The nouns (mouse, house, a few popular food items) are particularly easy to teach with drawings, photos, realia, etc. It also intoduces love and hate, allowing for easy conversation about what the students love and hate. (Think foods, classes, sports, movies, etc.) In addition, the story shows how to use "why?" and "beacuse." As long as the students understand what they're reading, they should see the humor in the story's ending - and maybe even predict it.

After going over the new words, read the story aloud to the class. As you read, stop and talk about the pictures and ask questions to make sure they're following along.
